Vasco Sports Club, formerly called Clube de Desportos Vasco da Gama, is the oldest registered Club and still participates in the State's top league competition - never once having been demoted in the club's 50-year history. The idea of forming the Club was actually discussed and conceived by a group of officers from the military garrison of Mormugoa. The then military officer Tenente Avila, who took the initiative to register the Club in Vasco. The process of registration began in 1948 and the Club, Clube de Desportos Vasco da Gama, was finally certified on 1st of September 1951. Clube de Desportos Vasco da Gama was registered with Tenente Avila as its first President.
