Vert - Vertical Gain

Describes the total amount of height you climb up the elevation. So if you run up a hill-climbing 100 meters, then come down and run up it a second time, your elevation “gain” is 200 meters (twice up 100 meters) even though you are currently standing only 100 meters in elevation above your starting point. Your ending altitude could be the same as the beginning, but if you must go down into a valley and gain altitude to return up it is far more difficult than running on flat land for the same distance.
