The fame and recognition of Boston Marathon is surely something that can never go unnoticed. This is an event that started during the 1897 after the 1896 Summer Olympics was a massive success. It is also known that the event has around 20,000 entrants amongst which some participants often raise funds for several charity with their extraordinary performance.

Boston Marathon 2022 - Event Details

The Boston Marathon would be taking place on 18th April on Monday. 

It is organised by Boston Athletic Association (BAA), which is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. More details about this marathon can be found on its official website

Statistics of runners in Boston Marathon

It is like a wish list for athletes to take part in this marathon and a lot of marathoners wait eagerly for this event to take place. Sadly Boston Marathon got cancelled in 2020, because of the COVID pandemic. However this year 28759 runners from 119 countries are participating in the Marathon. Amongst the total participants 110 Indian runners are all set to deliver their best performance.

Indian cities participation

It is a proud moment for India that twenty cities namely Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bholath, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Mumbai, Ludhiana, Kolkata, Kalaburagi, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Hanumakonda, Mysuru, Delhi NCR, Pune, Surat, Varanasi, Yamuna Nagar are being represented in the Boston Marathon.

The cities with maximum participants

Amongst the 20 Indian cities Pune, Maharashtra, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi NCR have the largest number of participants. 12 marathoners are from Pune, 11 from Bengaluru, 10 from Mumbai and 9 from Delhi NCR have participated.

Age Representation in the Boston Marathon

There are marathoners from several age groups starting from early 20's to early 70's. The youngest contestant is of 22 years and the eldest contestant is of 73 years.

The Boston Marathon is America’s iconic race, the oldest marathon in the country, and the most important*. This event is a much awaited event for marathoners around the world and Indian marathoners are all set to make their mark in the Boston Marathon.
